Whitireia and WelTec have been strategic partners since 2012, delivering a range of career choices and vast opportunities for staff, faculty, and students. Now we’re one of New Zealand’s most impressive, globally competitive tertiary institutions.
WelTec
The Wellington Institute of Technology is a tertiary institution that trains around 8000 students every year. We offer a range of industry-led qualifications from trades through to degrees and postgraduate programmes that are future-focused, developed alongside industry and provide students with practical skills so you can pursue your career goals.
WelTec is one of New Zealand's oldest tertiary education institutions and the second-oldest in Wellington. We’ve been helping people find their vocation since 1904.
Whitireia
Established in 1986, Whitireia is a government-owned and funded tertiary institute of technology, known for its high student success rates and culturally diverse student body. Every year we train over 6,200 students (over 3,440 are full-time students) who study at one of our contemporary campuses in Porirua, Wellington, and Auckland.
We offer a range programmes of study at certificate, diploma, degree, postgraduate and Master’s levels. Our programmes have been developed in conjunction with industry to offer excellent applied qualifications. Our NZQA Highly Confident rating for educational performance and capability in self-assessment makes Whitireia a Category 1 institution.
Whitireia is named after the Whitireia maunga (mountain) of Titahi Bay – the mountain that Ngāti Toa identify with, the highest mountain in their rohe.
