We help provide greater benefits to taxpayers by advocating for policies and programs to ensure governments consider community enterprise before outsourcing public sector opportunities to the private sector. Think Highway 407. Taxpayers built the highway and created the business. A previous government sold the opportunity for $3.1 Billion* Today this opportunity is worth $20 Billion* So the taxpayer lost out on $17 Billion in appreciation. Additionally, the business earns $150 Million* in profits for private and absentee shareholders. We assert that there is an alternative to privatization of public services. However there are hurdles. We advocate for a Community Enterprise Act to overcome the hurdles and build the capacity to deliver public services on a not for-profit basis. We propose building capacity for Community Enterprise in the following areas: • School Busing • Farming and Local Food processing and distribution • Energy generation and distribution (Electricity, Natural Gas, Bio-Diesel and Oil refinement) • Liquor and Beer sales and distribution • Toll Highways and Highway maintenance • Resource Extraction and Processing (Mining, Forestry, Aggregate, Water etc.) • Mining in the Ring of Fire • Waste Management and Energy from Waste • Invasive Species Eradication • Wireless communication licensing & Data Warehousing • Attainable Housing and Community Building (vibrant downtowns, youth retention, and job creation) • Untapped Retail Markets, Real Estate Development, Insurance • The production and sale of legalized cannabis and more
