Bloomsbury Information Capital (BIC) is a recently established corporate investor in early-stage AI, information and data businesses. It works in close cooperation with other Group companies: Bloomsbury Natural Capital and Bloomsbury Minerals Economics, and with Associate company Metal Price Analytics.
Peter Hollands is Chairman, Simon Benney is Managing Director and Barbara Sotowicz Non-Executive Director.
Investments will normally be made at Seed Capital and Series A stages. BIC will generally take 3%-5% of shares in an initial investment, which might be raised to 10%-25% in subsequent funding rounds. Projects with pre-money values between £2.5M-£15M are the main targets. BIC will focus on AI, information and data businesses mainly in mining and metals, energy transition, decarbonisation, forestry and regenerative agriculture, but will also be involved in other sectors, as opportunities arise. BIC’s first two investments are minority shareholdings in Minviro, headquarted in the UK and offices in Australia and China and Mutinex, headquartered in Australia with an office in the US. We cultivate local species of seaweed on low-impact ocean farms in partnership with coastal First Nations. We then harvest that seaweed and manufacture agricultural products for land-based farmers that increase yields and reduce emissions.

Natural capital is the world’s stock of natural assets: rocks, ores & other minerals, soil, air, water and all living things. Bloomsbury Natural Capital (BNC) is a for-profit company which invests in commercial companies which also sequester carbon and boost biodiversity.

BNC owns 4% of the equity of Cascadia Seaweed of Canada. BNCs Martin Hollands is a Senior Advisor to their Board, on Ecosystem Services & Restorative Aquaculture. Cascadia farms seaweed; its Plant Health Division is now selling liquid seaweed extracts via ReFeed Canada; bio-stimulant sales will begin in 2024: sales of cattle feed supplements (reducing methane emissions) by its Animal Health Division will follow shortly after.
BNC has 6% of the convertible loan notes of Xilva AG of Switzerland, which provides a digital platform for investing in regenerative forests. The "Xilva FOREST+ PORTFOLIO" service catalogues rigorously assesses high integrity forests. The "Xilva GRADE" service provides a forest evaluation methodology for investors, project developers and corporate buyers. Martin Hollands is BNCs Director on Xilvas Board.

Bloomsbury Minerals Economics was formed in 1993, initially to research, forecast and mathematically model ore and metal markets. It has since re-focused on environmental optimisation of mining (decarbonisation and improved water stewardship).
