OneReef was founded on the insight that local communities are the most effective environmental stewards when their traditional knowledge is combined with the right partnerships and resources. When our partnered communities in the Asia-Pacific region commit to protecting their coral reefs, we commit to providing the services and tools they need to enforce management of protected zones, monitor the health of their reefs, and grow local capacity toward full self-sufficient stewardship. We also support and foster community members struggling to inspire and lead their communities toward improved guardianship of their natural environment. OneReef has already created marine conservation agreements at sites supporting the protection of about 420,000 acres of reef across Micronesia in the Republic of Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.
