Layered Reality was founded in 2017 by Andrew McGuinness. It started with the idea of using the latest digital, theatrical and physical techniques to transport experience seekers into another world. The first experience, SOMNAI, launched in London in March 2018 to widespread praise for its innovation. It is now featured in Digital Catapults Immersive Hall of Fame. Since then, Layered RealityTM has won multiple awards. The Gunpowder Plot was created in partnership with Historic Royal Palaces. In 2021 it was the recipient of the Epic Megagrant by Fortnite developers, Epic Games. It has also been named one of the absolute best things to do around the world in 2022 by Time Out. In July 2025 Layered Reality launched Elvis Evolution, the first iteration of a 10 year global and exclusive agreement to tell Elvis Presleys story in the immersive space. Based at the Excel London the experience is a two hour long journey in Elvis shoes featuring three themed bars and two live bands.
