Début des années 90, le skate s’affiche comme contre-culture urbaine. Liberté de vivre, d’expression, esthétique underground, le mouvement en avance sur les tendances de la mode, explose. Un univers où s’invite Nicolas Ivars, avignonnais d’origine et pionnier de la skate culture en France. En 1999, il ouvre Circle, skate- shop réunissant les marques référence du milieu. 2006 marque l’ouverture de la première adresse The Next Door à Avignon. Devenu culture urbaine et mode, l’esprit skate laisse place à un vestiaire plus mature, plus casual, toujours imprégné de street-culture. New- York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Nicolas Ivars chasse les marques avant-gardistes, les créateurs en devenir aussi. The Next Door se fait un nom. Une soixantaine de marques sont au rendez-vous. 2010, The Next Door élargit ses horizons, ouvre son site et capte la clientèle parisienne et internationale. 4 ans plus tard, The Next Door prend le contre-pied du web en proposant une nouvelle expérience physique. Place Crillon à Avignon, le premier théâtre de la ville, bâtiment du XVIIIème où joua Molière, s’ouvre à une mode contemporaine. Un cross-over entre luxe et street-culture en phase avec le marché et qui séduit les pointures : Undercover, Sacaï, Comme des Garçons, Junya Watanabe, Marni, Nike, Adidas. The Next Door Paris a ouvert ses portes le 17 Janvier dernier au 10 rue Beaurepaire, Paris 10e, entre la place de la République, point de rencontre de la street culture et le canal Saint Martin. Le bâtiment couvre plus de 800m2 sur 6 étages dont 550m2 dédiés à la boutique. Plus quun multi-marques, The Next Door est un "destination store" ouvert à toutes les formes de créativité, un espace de vie et une nouvelle référence sur la scène de la mode Parisienne.
