Badael, which means ‘alternatives’ in Arabic, is a newly founded company owned by the Public Investment Fund. Badaels primary objective is to improve the quality of life and help curb smoking rates in Saudi Arabia by developing innovative reduced-risk alternatives for smokers.
Badael aims to play a complementary but important role in promoting a smoke-free Saudi Arabia by replacing combustible and other tobacco products, so that smokers and people around them can enjoy the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.

Lifera is a biopharmaceutical company wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) with a mission to enable two national priority objectives, which are improving Saudi Arabia’s biopharma resilience, and enabling the achievement of the National Biotech Strategy.
To achieve this mission, Lifera aims to become a leading biopharma Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) with a focus on advanced therapeutics and critical medicines. Lifera’s strategy is to be a service provider to biopharma and biotech companies globally by developing and acquiring state-of-the-art cGMP biomanufacturing capacity, establishing high throughput multi-omics capacity to support clinical, population health and R&D customers, securing high-value commercial partnerships and technology transfer, and developing a high caliber biopharma workforce.
Lifera serves customers for both KSA and global markets through contract manufacturing of biologics including insulin, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, gene therapies, and other advanced medicinal products, as well as through genetic testing services with a global presence and depth in rare disease with plans to expand into other therapeutic areas.

Established in 2009, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is a graduate-level research university located on the shores of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. The National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP) is one of 13 programs aiming to achieve Saudi Arabia’s 2030 Vision. The program focuses on transforming the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia into a leading industrial powerhouse and a global logistics hub in promising growth sectors including Industry, Mining, Energy and Logistics. By 2030, the program aims to stimulate private sector investments, generating ample job opportunities for Saudis, enhance the Kingdoms trade balance and maximize local content.
