O Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária, I. P. (INIAV, I.P.), é o Laboratório de Estado, da área de competências da Agricultura, Florestas e Desenvolvimento Rural, com sede em Oeiras, e detém Pólos de Atividade e Serviços Desconcentrados distribuídos de Norte a Sul de Portugal. No âmbito da sua missão e atribuições, promove desenvolve atividades de investigação, experimentação e demonstração, nas áreas de produção animal e vegetal, floresta, agroindústrias, recursos genéticos e melhoramento, alimentação animal, saúde animal, sanidade vegetal, segurança alimentar, na linha das políticas públicas definidas para os respetivos setores. O INIAV tem por missão a concretização da política científica e a realização de investigação de suporte a políticas públicas, na defesa dos interesses nacionais e na prossecução e aprofundamento de políticas comuns da União Europeia, bem como suporte técnico e científico à Tutela através de pareceres, criação de grupos de trabalho, elaboração e análise crítica de documentos. O INIAV apoia os operadores das diversas fileiras com que se relaciona, nomeadamente, através do aconselhamento técnico-científico nos setores da produção agro-florestal, animal e das agroindústrias e outros serviços de várias naturezas a empresas e associações de agricultores e de criadores.
