Established in 2010 to help match private investors with young entrepreneurial companies looking for early-stage business funding, Equity Gap is an Edinburgh-based business angel syndicate with 150 active members.
Equity Gap's current membership includes many captains of industry, business leaders, academics and entrepreneurs from Scotland and beyond, a number of whom are ex-pats or former residents, all eager to support early stage companies in Scotland.
Those young entrepreneurial businesses are often pre-revenue, but with a validated product or service that has undergone a pre-investment commercialisation process. Ideally the investment should be eligible for SEIS/EIS advance assurance and preferably the business should be based in Scotland or willing to relocate.
Equity Gap typically invests a minimum of £100,000 and maximum of £500,000 at initial or seed investment stage, with additional match funding from Scottish Enterprise. However, it regularly coinvests alongside other business angel syndicates, SE, VCs and the Scottish National Investment Bank to make more sizeable investments into scale-up opportunities across a wide range of sectors in Scotland.
Winners of the UKBAA's 'Most Active Investor in the Regions' award in 2019, Equity Gap members have invested in over 40 companies, leveraging more than £125m in total investment into our growing portfolio.

Libertine makes Linear Generator technology for distributed generation and heavy duty powertrains.
Linear Generators are expected to produce at least 30% more power from the same fuel input, and offer greater fuel flexibility to accelerate adoption of renewable fuels in applications and use cases that can’t be economically powered solely by renewable grid power.
Linear generators are cleaner, quieter and easier to use and maintain than today’s power generators. Libertine is enabling this revolution in internal combustion engine performance with its proprietary electronic piston motion control and high-performance linear machines.
Linear Generators using our technology will play a major role across global power generation and transport applications in our fossil free future.

Never has it been more important to ensure that the environment is right for business ideas, innovation and ambition to flourish in Scotland. A crucial element in creating that environment is providing access to funding.
Many businesses are frustrated in dealings with banks; many angel syndicates are committed to existing projects. It is a situation that can see pre-start and young businesses left without adequate support, at a time when it is often vital to have it.
Gabriel is a new angel syndicate, aimed specifically at supporting young businesses. It doesn’t matter how young – we welcome ‘lightbulb moments’ too – and the process is simple, to help get the funds injected into the business quickly.
Companies from a broad spectrum of sectors will be eligible for funding, but Gabriel’s focus is on companies that can demonstrate growth potential, ambition and scalability, preferably in new products and markets.

Social Investment Scotland (SIS) is a charity and social enterprise that provides loans to other charities, social enterprises and community groups across Scotland. We provide investment for other charities and social enterprises looking to make a positive impact on peoples lives, society or the environment.
Our mission is simple. We aim to make a lasting, sustainable impact on communities, by helping organisations continue doing the great work they do or expand on that work. Since 2001 weve invested over £130 million in organisations across Scotland, and we continue to manage the largest social enterprise fund in the country.
