Après avoir découvert que les flashs UV-C augmentent la résistance des plantes face à divers pathogènes, les chercheurs Laurent Urban et Jawad Aarrouf déposent un premier brevet en 2015. Ils rencontrent alors Yves Matton, co-fondateur de Technofounders, avec qui ils s’associent et créent ensemble UV Boosting en 2016. Cette technologie innovante consiste à stimuler les défenses naturelles de la plante grâce aux flashs UV-C, provoquant le déclenchement d’un mécanisme de défense : la plante est ainsi plus résistante aux attaques de pathogènes ou aux stress abiotiques (gel, sécheresse...). Les équipements proposés ont divers avantages et permettent notamment une cadence de traitement flexible, s’adaptent à l’essentiel des engins agricoles standards et ne nécessitent pas de consommable. Alors que les restrictions règlementaires se font de plus en plus strictes ces dernières années, UV Boosting ambitionne de réduire considérablement la dépendance des producteurs aux fongicides et de les aider à résister au changement climatique, principalement sur les cultures de la vigne, de la fraise, des vergers et sur lentretien des gazons sportifs.
