Codia's vision is to convert screen time kids aged 8-14 spend with Minecraft into a safe and educational experience, while not taking away from - or in several ways, even adding to - the entertainment value. Codia consists of a custom Minecraft server, an integrated sound and texture editor and a custom, multi-language, online visual programming tool. Everything can be accessed using the standard Minecraft client, nothing new needs to be installed. Children can cooperatively create adventures and mini-games with our programming interface, and enhance the gameplay they coded with new, custom textures and sound effects, all included in the same end-to-end user experience. They can share their work with their friends, who can then use it, facilitating teamwork. Children learn the best while they are playing, and most kids (and more than 20% of Computer Science graduates) who are interested in coding want to develop games. There are great existing platforms - like Scratch - to teach coding to children, but practice shows that kids get bored after a few months of learning, when their progress, and therefore, the rate of accruing achievements slow down.
