Innovation in technology for the benefit of people
The Science for Technological Innovation National Science Challenge (SfTI) is a 10-year (2014-2024), multi-million government science investment.
We are a community of over 500 of Aotearoa’s best physical science and engineering researchers drawn from our research partners, Māori organisations and industry. Together we develop research to tackle Aotearoa-New Zealand’s high-tech challenges to grow our economy and prosperity through physical sciences and engineering.
To ensure research is not left stranded in the lab, and to help researchers take their research to the next level, we also offer our researchers a unique professional development programme aimed at building their soft skills and supporting them to collaborate with Māori organisations and industry.
Since 2014, we have invested in over 90 projects and supported over 400 researchers from 40 research organisations. You can read more about our researchers and their groundbreaking work on our website: sftichallenge.govt.nz
We are generously hosted by Callaghan Innovation and funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
