O Instituto tem por objecto a investigação e divulgação dos princípios de Corporate Governance podendo para o efeito desenvolver todas as actividades adequadas a tal fim, e nomeadamente: - ser um importante fórum para assuntos relativos à Corporate Governance, abarcando, entre outros, o desenvolvimento de boas práticas de gestão de pessoas colectivas; - promover a qualificação profissional para que accionistas, sócios, associados, gerentes, administradores, auditores, membros de Conselhos de Administração, Fiscal, Consultivo e outros, adoptem e desenvolvam boas práticas de Corporate Governance; - fomentar o competente desempenho no exercício da actividade de Conselhos de Administração, Fiscal, Consultivo e outros; - formar profissionais qualificados para o desempenho de cargos em Conselhos de Administração, Fiscal, Consultivo e outros; - divulgar e debater ideias e conceitos sobre Corporate Governance, acompanhar e participar noutras instituições nacionais ou internacionais com ligações ao objecto do Instituto e com congéneres estrangeiras; - contribuir para que as pessoas colectivas adoptem como directrizes de governo e gestão a transparência, a prestação de contas e a equidade; - desenvolver material técnico sobre Corporate Governance para publicações; - realizar cursos, seminários e congressos sobre Corporate Governance; - ser interlocutor com entidades reguladoras nacionais e internacionais, ordens profissionais e institutos de classe; - adequar à situação nacional normas internacionais e comunitárias, em particular.
