Founded to inspire a renaissance in high quality journalism in the UK, Mill Media has received financial backing from Sir Mark Thompson, the former head of the BBC and New York Times, and has been described as "one of the most interesting and impressive media startups of the last decade" by the FTs John Burn-Murdoch.
Our journey started when Joshi Herrmann founded The Mill as a one-man-band in June 2020, a few months into the pandemic. The idea was very simple: would people start valuing and paying for local news again if it was done in a completely different way? More in-depth; more nuanced; with stories that were more enjoyable to read and weren’t covered in horrible advertising.
From there, we have grown into a fully-fledged media company. We now have have publications in six cities – including The Tribune in Sheffield and The Post in Liverpool, The Dispatch in Birmingham, The Bell in Glasgow and The Londoner in the capital – and more than 150,000 people have joined our mailing lists. Crucially, more than 9,000 members pay for and support our journalism, come to our events and shape what we cover.
In 2023, we raised money from a group of investors including CNN chief executive Sir Mark Thompson, media investor Turi Munthe, the leading economist Dame Diane Coyle and Axios publisher Nicholas Johnston. Thompson told the Guardian: “I’m backing The Mill because of the exceptional quality of its journalism and because it’s such an interesting and encouraging initiative. Britain’s cities need great commercially-sustainable journalism to inform the public and hold powerful institutions to account. That’s what The Mill and its sister publications were founded to do, and what they are consistently achieving.”

At Kiroku, we believe that dentists should focus on the work they were trained to do and not waste time on boring admin tasks.
That’s why we’re helping over 2,500 dentists across the world to make documentation effortless.
In increasingly litigious and private medical settings, professionals have to choose between their personal lives and the documentation their jobs require.
Our intelligent note-taking software allows users to add only the relevant details in a timely fashion, either using voice note technology or clickable workflows.
Kiroku also completes sections of your notes based on the previously provided information. It helps you create associated letters, consent and documentation in just a few clicks.
Powered by AI, we make recommendations and build workflows that adapt as you use Kiroku. Our AI will audit your notes or generate letters, and action points or highlight conflicting information in your notes to make you more compliant.
With clinicians spending a quarter of their day writing notes, Kiroku can cut this by two-thirds. Saving over 2 hours a week, you can now complete notes before your patient has left the room.
Founded in 2017 by a dentist and a machine-learning engineer, Kiroku was born out of the stress of writing endless clinical notes instead of treating patients.
We are a small team, but growing fast, with our seed round raised in October 2021. Over 8 million sets of notes have been written in Kiroku to date.

Rapid Innovation Group (RIG) is a commercialisation firm focused on high impact industrial technologies that have a global application where defensibility is primarily based on the strength of their intellectual property.
We partner with innovators and pioneers. Our clients are emerging, high potential companies located predominantly in the sustainable technology ecosystem. We operate internationally within a broader network of investors, corporates, and innovation funding bodies.
Our core expertise and experience is centred around addressing the specific challenges associated with commercialisation in the pioneering and early growth stages. We apply a specialist stage-specific skillset to pioneer the commercialisation of new technologies as they seek to navigate the journey from the lab, through initial adoption and growth, to early scale.
We operate around a small number of overlapping thematic practice areas. These include: industrial decarbonisation and energy efficiency; advanced materials; agrifood and water; and circular economy. These practices are defined by the companies we work with, by the evolving interests and competence of our people, and by the strategic desire to impact macro sustainability, climate change, and biodiversity challenges.
We see the shift to a sustainable, clean, low carbon economy as an urgent, existential, and moral imperative as well as an immense economic and investment opportunity. We acknowledge there is now an acute need for speed and for an exponential increase in investment and adoption.
