Wellfare is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City on a mission to solve food insecurity and transform the state of grocery and nutrition in low-income communities across the country.
The Better Box from Wellfare is the first free food program in the country focused on premium, functional and nutritious packaged groceries. Each Better Box includes over $200 worth of low-sugar, low-salt and low-fat products like plant-based milk, nutrition bars, zero-sugar seltzers and protein-packed pasta donated from Wellfare’s growing roster of brand partners. Every month, enrolled families pick up their free Better Box from a convenient popup distribution outpost in the community — no long line required.
While most food banks and pantries focus almost entirely on produce, Wellfare is meeting a growing need for convenient nutrition and better-for-you alternatives in low-income communities. The Better Box is a practical, efficient and dignified approach to nourishing underserved families, and is the first step in Wellfare’s fight against food insecurity.

Imperfect Foods was founded in 2015 with a mission to reduce food waste and build a better food system for everyone. We offer imperfect (yet delicious) produce, affordable pantry items, and quality meat and dairy. We deliver them conveniently to our customers’ doorsteps and pride ourselves on offering up to a 30% discount compared to grocery store prices. Our customers can get the healthy, seasonal produce they want alongside the grocery staples they rely on, without having to compromise their budget or values. We’re proving that doing the right thing for the planet doesn’t have to cost more, and that shopping for quality ingredients can support the people and resources that it takes to grow our favorite foods.

Food Recovery Network (FRN) is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit that unites 4,000 college students, dining providers, food suppliers, and local businesses in the fight against climate change and hunger by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste and donating it to local nonprofits who feed people experiencing hunger.
Founded in 2011 at the University of Maryland, FRN’s innovative model was created by a group of students who witnessed fresh food being thrown away every day at their campus dining halls, destined for landfills, while community members went hungry. Over the last ten years, FRN has grown into the largest student-driven movement against food waste and a leader in the food recovery space.
Our programs are on nearly 200 campuses in 46 states and the District of Columbia, and we have recovered and donated more than 6.9 million pounds of food to date – the equivalent of 5.7 million meals donated to individuals and families experiencing hunger.
At a systems-change level, we seek to recover surplus food to feed everyone who is hungry in the United States.
