Founded in 2005, OAR Northwest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit adventure education and research organization, run primarily by volunteers, that uses adventure for scientific exploration and free STEM-focused education delivered online and in-person. **Mission Statement: Use adventure-based rowing to create and deliver the best adventure education content to students worldwide, while researching environments that we explore together. OAR Northwest connects and educates communities through its ocean, coastal, and inland rowing education expeditions. While underway, specialized rowboats are home, laboratory and vehicle. In 2006, OAR Northwest achieved a Guinness Record­ making transatlantic rowing race win from New York to England. By 2013, OAR Northwest's mission had evolved to one focused on adventure education expeditions. The 'CWF Africa to the Americas Expedition' was the culmination of the transformation, delivering innovative STEM curriculum free of charge to classrooms in North America and countries worldwide. OAR Northwest is deeply committed to fostering, promoting and educating youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics as they relate to the student's home environment. 'Adventure: Mississippi River' is another step forward, delivering biannual fall semester education expeditions strengthened by partnerships with leading universities and adventure learning organizations.

Cowichan Energy Alternatives (CEA) was founded in 2008 as a non-profit organization focused on providing energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories and planning services, renewable energy feasibility studies and implementation, and leading community carbon offsetting initiatives through Community Carbon Marketplace (CCM). CEA's innovative not-for-profit approach is focused on finding creative solutions to energy and emissions challenges while maximizing triple bottom line benefits to sustainability partners and the community. Funds generated through CEA's GHG inventory and other revenue-generating sustainability services go to support educational initiatives and a growing list of alternative energy projects and carbon offsetting services that truly demonstrate leadership by example. Our first and largest alternative energy implementation project to date is the development of a biofuel production and distribution facility at Bing's Creek in partnership with the Cowichan Bio-Diesel Co-op (Co-op) and the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). This facility, along with Co-op biofuel distribution locations and a growing list of community partnerships, is part of a growing British Columbia Biofuels Network initiative (BCBN).
