WIIS Israel is dedicated to increasing the influence of women in the fields of foreign and defense affairs in Israel and the greater Middle East by raising their numbers and increasing awareness about international security issues and women’s rights. WIIS Israel makes effective change through two avenues: The first being mentorship opportunities, workshop training, career counseling and training programs, and the second being major ground breaking research about the influence of the security sector on Israeli society and how the increased participation of women in this sector improves the status of women overall in Israel. WIIS Israel was founded in 2010 on the 10th anniversary of the passing of UN resolution 1325 which recognized women’s roles in peacemaking and peace-building. This resolution committed the UN and Member States to support their participation in peace processes and the defense arena. WIIS Israel is an international affiliate of a larger organization, Women in International Security, which has affiliate organizations in 47 countries around the world.
