Tivano develops carbon removal projects that combine durable biomass storage, ecosystem restoration, and local economic benefits. We focus on landscapes where excess woody biomass is disrupting natural ecosystems. In Namibia, this means helping restore degraded savanna by removing overgrown woody vegetation that affects biodiversity, land health, and the natural functioning of the land. Instead of letting this plant material be burnt or left to decompose, which releases carbon back into the atmosphere, we store it in our specialized underground vaults that keep the carbon locked away. Our work not only removes carbon, but also helps restore savanna ecosystems so they can once again sustain wildlife and local agricultural activities.
