The Student Union of the University of Tampere (Tamy) promotes the interests of students and protects their rights in the University and society. Tamy has a total of 11,000 members in the two cities the University of Tampere operates in: Tampere and Pori. According to the Universities Act, the purpose of the student union is to act as a link between its members and to promote their societal, social and intellectual aspirations. Tamy therefore has three main tasks: supervise interests, provide services and make a difference. Tamy works hard to supervise the interests of its members not only at the University of Tampere but in the whole Tampere region. The most important statutory duty of the Student Union is to nominate student representatives to the administrative bodies of the University and its schools. Students are therefore represented in relevant decision-making processes. In addition, Tamy is an expert, makes statements and gives comments on student-related issues, and represents students in several draft working groups. Tamy offers plenty of services for its members and for the nearly 80 organizations under Tamy. These services include counselling, the student newspaper Aviisi, health services at the FSHS, free legal counselling, events, activities and much, much more. One of the most important benefits is the student card that brings heaps of discounts and deals!
