Derived from Doktoro Esperanto (translates to “one who hopes”). Esperanto was an artificial verbal language developed in the 1880s with the goal of creating an easy to learn neutral language that transcended nationality and would help foster peace and international understanding between people with different national languages.
Spranto was inspired by the idea of Esperanto and the goal of L. L. Zamenhof who wanted world peace and understanding. When first setting out to change the world for the better, Spranto’s founders realized there is a language that exists today which transcends all people of the human race no matter their origin: the language of expressions. Whether it’s a smile, a laugh, the look of understanding, a face of compassion, the gleam of excitement, or a nod of agreement, any two people in the world looking face-to-face at each other can understand the basic expressions on the other person’s face. Spranto’s goal is to enable a world where this language of expressions, mixed with verbal communication and the ability to pass this information between any two people, can spur innovation, ideas and education. For this reason, Spranto has made its standards-based global video network and video clients free to the world in an effort to create unity, foster education, promote communication, and advocate understanding between all peoples, while keeping the original idea to be “one who hopes” for peace.
