The opportunity is now. India is starting to discuss primary Health and family medicine. Writing in the Laaanceta team from the Public Health foundation of India (PHFI) recommended that the most pressing need is for primary healthcare.
In the UK Primary healthcare is now being given responsibility by the government for the majority (80%) of the healthcare spend (recognising that this is where the greatest impact is made) because this is where 80% of health work is delivered. It is the most cost effective and impactful place to spend money. This is where prevention and easy access to health takes place and where the’ ring is held’ for the patient.
