ORION is Ontario’s only provincial research and education network, connecting over 1.7 million individuals – including universities, colleges, hospitals, research institutions, and school boards – through an extensive infrastructure comprised of 6,000 kilometres of dedicated fibre and more than 30 points of presence. As a not-for-profit organization, ORION serves as the backbone of Ontario’s knowledge economy, championing innovation, digital resilience, and inclusion. What sets ORION apart is its purpose-driven connectivity and unwavering commitment to community empowerment. Rather than functioning as a conventional Internet Service Provider (ISP), ORION’s not-for-profit model places the needs of the research and education community first. Our focus is on enabling transformative work and technological advancement, not on maximizing corporate profits. This structure allows us to provide affordable, cutting-edge solutions and shared access to advanced technology, with every dollar reinvested in supporting Ontario’s research and education sector. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. ORION actively engages stakeholders, values community feedback, organizes impactful events, and advocates for the digital priorities of our constituents, working together to strengthen Ontario’s reputation as a global leader in innovation.
