Opterion Health is focused to bring innovation to dialysis and foster peritoneal dialysis (PD). The company aims to improve the quality of life for patients as well as their loved ones and to possibly increase the survival rates of people who suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD). Opterion Health was founded in 2012 by healthcare experts. The Company, based in Switzerland, is one of the few research-driven companies developing a novel PD solution. Opterion Health is privately held and financed by Angel Investors. The new Opterion dialysis solution is the first innovation in PD in the last two decades and will not only improve patients’ well-being by offering flexibility at work and at home, but also reduce dialysis-related healthcare costs. The new PD solution is glucose-free, considerably decreasing metabolic challenges and offers an innovative dialysis option for those patients who suffer from diabetes (approx. 45% of dialysis patients). Opterion Health is a pure play PD Company with two novel approaches in development, based on known molecules. Our two-fold approach will increase the medical utility of PD by offering a better osmotic driver (ODR) and – possibly in combination – a biocompatibility-enhancing agent (BCA).
