The National Trust for Scotland is an independent charity that protects, cares for, and shares our country’s magnificent natural and human heritage.
We’re the largest membership organisation in Scotland, a leader in conserving and promoting the nations treasured places and collections so that they can be enjoyed by present and future generations.
We were founded in 1931 – since then, we’ve pioneered public access to and shared ownership of some of the most magnificent buildings, collections and landscapes in Scotland.
We believe in protecting the nature, beauty and heritage of Scotland, and sharing our amazing places with everyone. Scotland is blessed with a wealth of stories, values, objects and landscapes that, over time, have been woven together to unite communities, forge traditions and nurture our unique national spirit.
We care for ancient houses, battlefields, castles, mills, gardens, coastlines, islands and mountain ranges, as well as the plants, animals and birds that live there.
We have a presence in every corner of Scotland; from the most northerly tip of Shetland, to the south coast of Dumfries and Galloway; from the eastern shore of the country at St Abb’s Head, to the most westerly islands of St Kilda in the Atlantic Ocean – 64 kilometres from the nearest landfall.
Simply, our work keeps this heritage safe and every day, our members, volunteers and staff help us to look after an astonishing variety of things.
