The Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim combines leading research in the areas of medicine, life sciences and medical technology with outstanding cooperation structures and excellent patient care. The aim of this Alliance is to foster the further development of a leading life science region through recruitment of top talents, strengthening areas of excellence with platforms and flagship projects, and promoting young scientists through cross-institutional research programs. The Alliance bridges seven internationally highly renowned institutions in the Rhine-Neckar region: Heidelberg University and its two medical faculties, the University Hospital Heidelberg (UKHD), the University Hospital Mannheim (UMM), the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research and the Central Institute of Mental Health (ZI). Embedded in a dynamic economic environment including major pharmaceutical, chemistry and technology companies as well as more than 400 small and medium-sized enterprises in the biotech and healthcare industry, the Alliance also aims to contribute to new research-driven start-up initiatives. The Health + Life Science Alliance is strongly supported by the Innovation Campus strategy of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
