Le Football Club Lorient est un club de football français, fondé en 1926 à Lorient (Morbihan). Créé sur le Port de Pêche, le club tente laventure professionnelle dans les années 1970, sans parvenir à monter en première division, jusquà ce quun dépôt de bilan mette un terme aux ambitions du club. En 1991, alors quil évolue en troisième division, le club fait une nouvelle fois appel à Christian Gourcuff. En dix saisons, ce dernier accompagne la professionnalisation du FC Lorient et sa première promotion dans lélite, obtenue en 1998. Après deux ans dexil, Gourcuff revient chez les Merlus en 2003 et installe durablement le club en Ligue 1, où il évolue depuis 2006.
