Think of Cipher as a “social networked” version of Tripadvisor, which allows people to memorialize all the fun travel experiences they’ve had (with photos, notes on hotels, restaurants, activities, etc.) and share that with others.
I built this app because 1) I wanted one place to look back on all of the fun times I’ve had with family and friends, and 2) for my own travel planning, I always wished I had a list of trips that people I know and trust have taken (imitation in the sincerest form of flattery!). With Cipher, you get both. Googling “best places to go in October with young kids” or “June bachelor party ideas” never got me very far…
I’m a big believer that the value of someone’s network is most driven by their second-degree connections, and that best ideas come not only from friends, but from friends of friends – people I’m likely to trust based on a common mutual connection. This certainly applies to travel, but also many other areas as well. It is one of the core insights behind Cipher.
It has been a blast getting back into coding and building a product that I’ve always wanted for myself and my friends.
