Cambia is an independent non-profit social enterprise creating new technologies, tools and paradigms to promote change and enable innovation. Our mission is to democratize innovation: to create a more equitable and inclusive capability to solve problems using science and technology. Our institutional ethos is built around an awareness of the need and opportunity for local commitment to achieving lasting solutions to food security, agricultural, public health and environmental problems. Cambia has a long history of impact in global life science-enabled innovation as inventors and distributors of open access enabling technologies. Cambia for the last two years has been named to the Global Journal's list of the World's Top 100 NGOs (http://theglobaljournal.net/article/view/534/). Cambia pioneered the development of an open patent-based Commons: the Biological Open Source movement (BiOS www.bios.net), and in 2000, started The Patent Lens (www.patentlens.net) - now the most prominent free and open full text international patent search site. Our most recent work product, The Lens, is an open, global resource for 'Innovation Cartography': we are building a comprehensive public platform for patent and innovation system transparency and exploring and supporting new modes of collaboration and use of creative and committed intellects.
