To further reinforce its position as the leading telecom service provider, Brasil Telecom acquired the entire submarine fiber-optic cable of the Globenet group, interconnecting points in the United States, Bermuda, Brazil and Venezuela. With the acquisition of MetroRED, a private telecom network service provider using digital fiber-optic networks, Brasil Telecom began offering internet access to the country’s largest corporate clients in some of Brazil’s principal cities, namely São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Brasília, and also in cities outside of Brazil.
