Velohub is a Zurich based start-up developing smart technology for urban cyclists, founded in June 2016.
In November 2017, we launched Blinkers - a set of bike lights that make cyclists visible and predictable in the road - to the market.
Our team is composed of 5 members and we all ride our bikes to go to work. And the idea of developing such lights came from a pure empirical experience: we regularly find ourselves in a lot of risky situations while riding our bikes in the city, when cars don’t see us, or when they don’t understand our intentions. It mainly happens in junctions and roundabouts, where visual interaction between cyclists and other vehicles is very important. We also think that the hand signaling system is not that effective as it is not visible under poor light conditions, and it’s not suitable when going fast. So, that is how we came up with Blinkers, an integral safety solution for cyclists.
The number of cyclists is increasing year after year and safety is naturally a very important topic. Bike accidents are still a problem, and it is clear that cyclist’s visibility is crucial for this matter. And that is why we believe that our product Blinkers could benefit cyclists, by improving their safety while riding.
