A parasol base has two main functions: to keep a parasol up and stable. Most bases address these functions with cheap tubes and concrete. Cheap tubes loosen over time. Concrete creates pollution, plus it’s unwieldy and hard to recycle. A Baser Original has a patented system that tightly holds nearly any parasol pole, with no wobbly tubes or rusty screws. It also has carefully designed sandbags instead of concrete – easy to fill, easy to carry and easy on your toes if you kick them accidentally. Best of all, our product functions as a sustainable alternative. We build our bases here in Denmark, using recycled materials and renewable energy, to reduce our environmental impact in manufacture and transport. Our product is minimalist across the board: design, manufacture, even packaging and transport. The base is a few simple sweeps of RAVAMID ECO, a fibreglass made 100% from ocean plastics and industrial scrap. Our factory uses 100% wind power to build our products, which are 100% repairable and 100% recyclable. The sandbags are 190-g solution-dyed olefin, made by our partner using 100% alternative energy (30% from their own solar panels). The fabric is sturdy, colourfast and resistant to weather, mould and mildew. By keeping the bases small and the sandbags empty, we reduce the amount of packaging needed to ship them. By manufacturing in Denmark, we save up to 2.3 kg of CO2 in transport over a base from Asia. That sounds small until you consider how many products ship from Asia every minute. And we encourage repairing and recycling instead of planned obsolescence. Our customers can fix their bases with only a small shipping fee for spare parts, and they receive shop vouchers when they send old products to us. So they love our products and the virtuous cycle they begin when they join the Baser family. There’s nothing else like Baser in the parasol base market. Nothing looks like it, nothing works like it, and nothing minimizes its footprint like it.
