algrano.com is the online marketplace for green coffee. algrano enables transparent direct trade between roasters and growers.
algrano is a startup deeply rooted in the 21st century. It started through skype calls between Santiago de Chile, Minas Gerais in Brazil and Zurich in Switzerland. After a few exchanges, the three founders decided to present their idea to the startup Chile competition. Their project was selected and a first rough version of the platform was presented in Spring 2014 to coffee cooperatives in Brazil and roasters in the United States and Europe. A few months later, in September 2014, algrano was selected by the startup Brasil program and the founders moved to Vila Velha, Brazil. From January to June 2015, the final online platform was developed and partnerships with producers and exporters in Brazil and Nicaragua were built. On June 16th 2015, the team officially launched algrano at the World of Coffee event in Gothenburg and won right away the award for the best new IT and Tech innovation of the show.
In early 2016 algrano closed a financing round and will present mid-2016 its new board of directors consisting of well-known and experienced industry executives. Today algranos team works in Zug Switzerland, over 500 businesses are registered on the platform and farmers from Brazil, Nicaragua, Colombia, Costa Rica and Guatemala have sold coffee to roasters based in Germany, Sweden, UK, France, Switzerland and Austria.
