Founded on the initiative of Pr. Claire Mounier-Vehier (Cardiologist, Head of the Department of Vascular Medicine and Hypertension of the Heart-Lung Institute of the Lille University Hospital Center) and of Mr. Thierry Drilhon (firm manager and executive and President of the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce), Women Cardiovascular Healthcare Foundation is a fundraising program focused on the prevention of womens cardiovascular disease. These diseases are no longer reserved for men today. With more than 75,000 deaths per year in France, they are the leading cause of death among women, a reality that is still too little known, causing delays in diagnosis and treatment. Yet women die 6 times more from cardiovascular disease than breast cancer. This is due to a harmful change in their lifestyle, with more tobacco, stress, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle ... At the same age, women have more risk factors than men. Hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol have a more toxic arterial impact on them. Psychosocial factors are also more common in women and have become a major cardiovascular risk situation. Our ambition is to save 10,000 lives over the next 5 years. Indeed, 8 out of 10 cardiovascular accidents are preventable thanks to a better lifestyle and adapted screening.
